2026 Forging Contests
An item that includes a forged, sharp cornered, right-angle bend, a scroll and a drop-the-tongs weld. Orientation of those three details and type of scroll are up to the participants. It can be one piece or multiple
2. An item with a forge weld socket without the handle. (Spear, wood chisel, etc.)
*Contest items must have been forged since BSD 2025; Demonstrators will judge contests on design, technical details, and overall execution; The judges’ decisions are final; First, Second, and Third prizes will be awarded for each forging contest.
• Ferriers will be here this year!
• Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
• Limited on-site camping available Friday and Saturday night; no hookups, no showers.
• No pets are allowed
• Tailgating (Blacksmith Flea market) for registered guests all weekend.
• Optional Friday Potluck Dinner - May 15, 2024 - 5:30 p.m.
• Breakfast, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and lunch, noon to 1 p.m., included each day for registered guests.
• Iron-in-the-Hat drawings
• Saturday and Sunday; drawing at noon; donation of blacksmith related items encouraged.
• Forging contests: Judging is Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Items to bring to enter the contests are a Human Form Forged sculpture. Minor welding is allowed for assembly, but the object should be substantially forged. (look back here as details become available). Items must have been forged sometime after the Blacksmith Days 2024 event.
Mixed media botanical competition.
Entries must incorporate the following:
* Iron or steel and at least one other material (copper, aluminum, glass, wood, stone, etc.)
* Botanical theme (flowers, leaves, trees, garden, etc.)
* Incorporate traditional joinery (rivets, collars, wrapping, tennons, forge welding, etc.)
Scoring will be judges choice based on:
* Quality of execution
* Originality
* Difficulty and complexity
• Live Auction (50/50 or donation to BGCM) of handmade items: Saturday at 5 p.m.
• Saturday Dinner (advanced registration) after live auction, around 6 p.m. on May 17, 2024,
• Tool and Equipment Silent Auction (20% commission): Ends Sunday at noon
• Raffle Drawing for handmade blacksmith tools in a handmade tote - tickets available at meetings or the event.
