Ring in the Season Jingle Bell Class
Description: Make tooling to forge jingle bells for the holidays. Create your own designs, forge the bells, attach stems and ringers. Each student will have the opportunity to make five jingle bells. Class time 9am-5pm each day
Prerequisites: You must have taken Blacksmithing 101 or have equivalent experience equal to at least 16 hours of forging time.

Please join us on November 22nd at the Bear Branch Nature Center for our annual holiday party. Setup for the event begins at 4pm with dinner shortly after 5pm. The guild will provide main dishes, drinks and tableware. We are asking that you bring a favorite side dish or dessert.

3rd annual Selmer Ironworks Hammer-In
This year’s demonstrator is Dale Morris from the VA Institute of Blacksmithing. Forging demonstrations, tailgating sales, raffle! Donate a forged critter to the raffle. Vote with tickets for best animal, head, insect, grotesque, etc. Item donations offset the cost of the event.
This event is free to the public. Bring a handmade item for Iron In the Hat. Item donations offset the cost of the event. Know someone interested in blacksmithing, but they’ve never made anything to donate? Bring them along and buy some extra tickets. Items do not have to be forged ironwork. Share your art with the community.
The demonstration will be inside. Tailgating will be outside, weather permitting.

Trade item - Drift a hole, use a rivet or tenon for connection
2026 Wrapped Eye Tomahawk (Weekend)
You will forge a wrapped eye tomahawk using mild steel to form the eye and body and then forge weld a high carbon bit, cutting edge into the blank. Hickory handles will be provided. There may be time to forge more than one tomahawk or try a farrier’s rasp or wrought iron. PREREQUISITE: BS 101 or equivalent. Successful forge welding experience is highly recommended. Class time 9am-5pm each day.
Prerequisites: You must have taken Blacksmithing 101, or have equivalent experience equal to at least 16 hours of forging time.

Knife Making Class (Weekend)
In this class, you will learn to forge, heat treat, grind, handle, and finish a camping/utility knife. The knife will be made from 1075 steel and have a wooden handle with a full tang construction. All materials will be provided.
Prerequisites: You must have taken Blacksmithing 101, or have equivalent experience equal to at least 16 hours of forging time.

BS 202 (Tong Making)
- Learn hammer control, hardening and tempering, and riveting. You will forge a pair of bolt tongs and all the tooling necessary to punch, drift, rivet, and assemble them. Projects will include a top rivet set, bottom rivet stake, center punch, scribe, round punch, and a punch plate or bolster. Class time 9am-5pm each day.
Prerequisites: You must have taken Blacksmithing 101 or have equivalent experience equal to at least 16 hours of forging time.

Blacksmith Days 2025
The 35th annual blacksmith days event for the Blacksmith Guild of Central Maryland. One of this year’s demonstrators is Ted Banning. The other demonstrator is being worked out now. Check out frequently for updates. Activities include contests, tailgating, Iron-in-the-hat drawings, Forging Contests, Live Auction and more! This is a save the date notification. BSD Friday Workshop with Ted Banning
For the Friday BSD 2025 workshop, Mr Banning will be teaching a traditional Indonesian knife with a human-shaped handle, called a Majapahit Keris. The workshop will cover forging only; grinding and finishing of the knife will be left to the students. A picture is attached.
