Class: BS-101 (Beginner's Blacksmithing)

Instructor: Ray Neubauer

Assisting: TBA

Dates: Oct. 22-23, 2011 (Sat/Sun)

Fee: $175
 

Learn the basics of blacksmithing from forge and fire control to hammer control. You will learn to forge a fish tail scroll, pig tail scroll, tab hook, drive hook, forge poker, water can handle, and other student selected projects as time permits.

Class: Tool and Jig Making

Learn to make basic tools and jigs for the blacksmith shop: Spring fuller, bending fork, scrolling wrench, vise-held bending jigs, tripod scale. Welding involved but not required. Wearing Long-sleeve cotton shirts encouraged.

Prerequisite:  BS-101 or equivalent
 
Learn hammer control, hardening and tempering, and rivet making. You will forge a pair of pick up tongs and all the tooling necessary to punch, drift, rivet, and assemble them. Projects will include a top rivet set, bottom rivet stake, center punch, scribe, round punch, and a punch plate or bolster.

Learn basic forge welding techniques and make a small project incorporating forge welds Forge welding or Fire Welding is a technique for joining two pieces of iron or steel by heating them in a forge and then fusing them together with hammer blows. .
