Class: BS-101 (Beginner's Blacksmithing)

Instructor: Bill Clemens

Assisting:  Mark Judge

Dates: 23-24Jan 2010 (Sat/Sun)

Fee: $175
 

Learn the basics of blacksmithing from forge and fire control to hammer control. You will learn to forge a fish tail scroll, pig tail scroll, tab hook, drive hook, forge poker, water can handle, and other student selected projects as time permits.

Learn basic forge welding techniques and make a small project incorporating forge welds

Forge welding or Fire Welding is a technique for joining two pieces of iron or steel by heating them in a forge and then fusing them together with hammer blows.

Prerequisite:  BS-101 or equivalent
 
Learn hammer control, hardening and tempering, and rivet making. You will forge a pair of pick up tongs and all the tooling necessary to punch, drift, rivet, and assemble them. Projects will include a top rivet set, bottom rivet stake, center punch, scribe, round punch, and a punch plate or bolster.

In this extended 4 day version of BS-101,  you will learn the basics of blacksmithing from forge and fire control to hammer control. You will learn to forge a fish tail scroll, pig tail scroll, tab hook, drive hook, forge poker, water can handle, and have time for more hands on forging practice and  student selected projects as time permits.
